From Motor Trend. Small car segments have seen growing sales numbers as they not only offer the ideal transportation when in the heart of a city, but also offer superior gas mileage compared to larger cars. Chevrolet has passed a milestone by selling over 1 million Spark models worldwide, while earlier this year the brand sold its 3 millionth Cruze.

Currently available in 71 markets, the Spark first went on sale back in 2009, with South Korea selling the most models. However, the United States and Mexico are not far behind. Chevy has targeted a younger buyer with this model, and GM says that just this year small car sales have increased over 9 percent with buyers under 35.Alan Batey, executive vice president of Global Chevrolet, said in a release that "Our small cars - Spark, Sonic and Cruze - attract more new car buyers to Chevrolet than any other vehicles in the lineup, with more than 60 percent of buyers never owning a Chevy before."

Furthering its appeal to young buyers, the Chevrolet Spark in the US Market offers an available built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that allows a connection for up to seven devices, Siri Eyes Free for customers with a compatible iPhone, and an available 7-inch touchscreen MyLink infotainment system. This year, the Spark managed to earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), something no other vehicle in the mini car segment was able to achieve. The Spark earned the distinction thanks in part to its lightweight construction that utilizes high-strength steel in its body and B-pillars.
